A 250 strong super choir is set to take centre stage at this year’s Educate Awards ceremony at Liverpool Cathedral.
Young choristers from nine schools across Merseyside are bringing their musical talents together to perform a medley of songs on the awards evening, which takes place on Friday 18 November.
The schools taking part include secondary schools The Belvedere Academy, St Hilda’s CE, Liverpool College, Archbishop Blanch and the Academy of St Francis of Assisi. Primary school pupils from Rainford CE, Whitefield, Netherton Moss and Bickerstaffe will also be performing on the night.
Led by choirmaster Matthew O’Keeffe from The Belvedere Academy, the schools will be performing alongside the Belvedere orchestra and organist Dan Bishop. Rehearsals are now underway for what plans to be a spectacular performance in one of Liverpool’s most iconic buildings.
Matthew O’Keeffe, says: “Putting together the ‘Super Choir’ is such an exciting prospect. Music is thriving here at The Belvedere Academy at the moment, and to share that passion for performing with other like-minded schools and children across the North-West is an absolute pleasure and privilege for our pupils.
“Our choristers, because of the choir, are now a close knit family of pupils of all ages and backgrounds, who use singing as a connection, not only to each other but to the heart and mind of the listener. So, to come together with eight other choirs who share a similar ethos will be something special indeed, especially at a prestigious event such as the Educate Awards.
“The guests at the event can expect to see and hear a vast choir of over 250 young girls and boys singing with passion and joy. People are in for a treat!“
The super choir will be performing to over 500 people as the awards brings together special guests, teachers and support staff from schools in the Liverpool City Region, Cheshire and Lancashire.
Title sponsored by Ricoh UK and Copyrite Systems, the Educate Awards is returning for its fifth year and is the biggest celebration of education in the North West, which awards all aspects of school life across 21 award categories.
