Educate Award sponsor MerseySTEM has an exciting line up of events coming in the next few months.
The MerseySTEM Robotics Challenge is coming and over the next few months it will be holding heats across the region to see who can build the best battling bot! Are you in?
With two open heats and six local ones in Liverpool, Knowsley, Wirral, Sefton, Halton and St Helens each challenge will see teams of students from local schools take part in a full-day event, building robots and pitting them against each other in a series of matches. The winning team will progress through to a grand final to compete against schools from across the Merseyside region!
These events enable students to understand a variety of design, science and engineering principles and also encourage teamwork, leadership and problem solving skills. They aim to inspire and excite students’ interest in robotics & to demonstrate the practical application of mathematics and engineering.
Starting in Knowsley Community College on 25th September, this year’s competition will prove to be a massive success with pupils and teachers alike.
Last year, over 50 schools battled over six months in a bid to win the title of MerseySTEM Robotics Challenge Champions. West Derby students Adam Jennions, Jakub Jagielski, Jack Jones and Jack Newsham claimed the title with St Michael’s C of E High School’s team coming in second and St Ambrose Barlow Catholic College taking third.
This year, every winning team competing in the Robotics Challenge heats will win a Vex Robotics competition lab kit worth £750.
